ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Sun, Mar 14:
- Final 1B Lab Grades Posted
  - Your final 1B lab grades are now posted. If you have any grading problems or corrections that need to be made, you need to contact Tom Fleming in-person during office hours on Monday, March 15, at 11:00am. You will need to bring your lab notebook and copies of your prelabs if there are any changes to be made.
  Congratualations on finishing 1B, and Good Luck on your Finals!

Thu, Mar 04:
- Week 10 Lab Manual Posted
  - The week 10 lab manual is now posted. Please do all of the prelab homework. For the reasons described below, you will not be able to get through all of the material in this lab. Your TAs will point out the most important things for you to do at your week 10 lab meeting.
Wed, Mar 03:
- Special Note on Week 10
  - Your last and final 1B lab is in week 10. Attendance at week 10 is mandatory (your week 10 score can not count as a dropped-score). You will be taking your post-quiz, and it will be your last chance to check your grades for completeness and accuracy. You will need to make sure that you bring with you your lab notebook and your carbon copies of your prelabs. There will be no changes to any of your lab grades after week 10, so whatever you don't take-up with your TA at your week 10 lab will become your permanent grade. Because of these administrative details, the week 10 lab itself will not be the usual full-lab with a full prelab homework. More will be posted about this part of your lab tomorrow.

- Week 9 Lab Manual Posted
  - The Week 9 lab manual on Magnetism is now posted.

Tue, Feb 24:
- Major Grade Updates Posted.
  - Quiz code conflicts between different students using the same quiz code numbers have been resolved. You should now be able to locate your own grades.
  - Grades for students who started in one section at the beginning of the quarter then moved to another section later in the quarter have now been resolved. Those grades have been moved from your old sections to your new sections.
  - If you can't find your quiz code number, it's because there's no record of you having been issued one. There are three students in this category. If you are one of them, you need to contact Tom Fleming (mtfleming@physics.ucsd.edu) to have your quiz code number updated.
  - AB indicates that you were absent from the lab section. NR indicates that you did not turn-in a prelab. A blank spot could mean anything, so your TA needs to record something in those blanks ASAP, and you need to resolve those with your TAs right away.
  - If you have any corrections that need to be made to your grades at this point, you need to contact your TAs ASAP.
  - All grades/records now posted to the website will become final in week 10.
  Thanks for your patience with this process.

- The Week 8 Lab Manual, Flashers -- RC Circuits, is now posted. Please make sure to do your prelab homework for next week. There's a lot of electronics stuff in this lab that you may not be familiar with. Please feel-free to drop-by for office hours with Tom, Daniel and Chad next week.

- The Week 7 Labs on RC circuits requires no prelab homework, and there is not any lab manual to download. All you need to do is come to your regular lab section for an in-lab activity next week.

- 1B Lab grades posted.
  - Sorry, some grades are still being updated and moved from temporary to permanent sections. More updates to follow this week.
Mon, Feb 09:
- 1B Lab grades posted.
  - All of the quiz code numbers are now in. Grades that were recorded in sections other than your permanent section will be moved to your permanent sections by tonight. Your posted grades will be current as of tomorrow morning.

- The Week 6 Lab Manual, "Batteries and Lightbulbs", is now posted
- Updated 1BL Lab Grades Posted
- Most quiz code numbers are now resolved. Thank You. If you have grades which were recorded in different lab sections, those will be collected together into your permanent lab section this Monday night.

- Updated 1BL Lab Grades Posted
  - Missing quiz codes have now dropped to about 150. As indicated several times below, in order for your lab grades to be posted, you need to make sure that your TA has your quiz code number. You need to address this issue in-person with your TA at your next lab section.

- Updated 1BL Lab Grades posted
  - Missing quiz codes have now dropped to about 250. Please make sure that you get your quiz code to your TA so your grades can be recorded properly. If there is a problem with your grades as they are recorded, or your quiz code score is missing, you need to contact your TA so your information can be updated.

  - There are about 300 missing quiz code numbers. Please make sure to give your quiz code number to your TA at your next lab meeting so you will be able to check your grades.
  - If there is anything wrong with your grades as they are posted, you need to contact your TA about it in person at your next lab meeting.

- New-and-Improved LI Office Hours
  - By popular demand, the 1B Lab Instructor office hours have been moved to Mondays as follows:
    - Tom Fleming, Mondays 11:00am to 12:00pm
    - Daniel Queen, Mondays 2:30pm to 3:30pm
  - A 1B TA will now also have office hours and be available to help you out:
    - Chad Kishimoto, Tuesdays, 1:00pm to 3:00pm
- Week 4 Lab
  - The Week 4 1B Lab Manual on Capacitance will be posted by Friday afternoon, 01-23. If you want to get a head-start on reading before the manual is available, please read-up on capacitance, capacitance in series and in parallel, the relationship between charge, voltage, and capacitance, and the relationship between capacitance, area and plate separation distance in a parallel-plate capacitor.

- Lab Grade Posting
  - Your lab grades will be posted by Monday mornings after each week's labs. We cannot post your grades until you've given us your Quiz Code Numbers, issued to you at the first lecture quiz. Please make sure to give your quiz code number to your TA at your following lab meeting in week 3. The first lab grade posting will be on Monday, Jan 26. Remember that if there are any problems with your lab grade as it is posted, you need to contact your TA at or before your next lab meeting. All posted grades become final one week after posting.
Tue, Jan 13:
- New Lab Spaces Open
  Six new openings have been added to each lab section, bringing the enrollment limit from 24 to 30 students per section. Please continue to try using WebReg to get officially enrolled in a section you can attend. Special Note: The info on StudentLink appears to be very unstable at this time. Sometimes it says the section is full when it isn't, and sometimes it says (erroneously) that the section enrollment limit is 24. We don't know why this is occurring, but we'll try to get it fixed as soon as we can.
- "Help -- What Should I Do?"
  - If you are waitlisted for a section, please go to that section until you can get officially registered.
  - If you are registered in a section you absolutely cannot attend (i.e., you'd have to drop the course if you couldn't go to a different lab section), then please go to a section you can attend until you can get officially registered.
  - If you were able to enroll into a lab section this week, but only after that lab section had met, and hence you missed your lab because you were not able to enroll until after the lab had already met, please go to another lab section for this week only. Attend your registered section thereafter.
  - If for whatever reason you are still trying to get registered into a section you can actually attend, please keep trying to register via WebReg, and go to one of the sections you would be able to go to until you can get officially registered.
  - If you are registered into a section you can attend, but would "just like to go to a different one", don't -- please stay in your own registered section.
- The On-Duty Lab Instructor schedule has changed. The most current copy is now available below.
Fri, Jan 09:
- Students who originally registered in the "Time TBA" lab sections, or those registered in A61 or B60 need to send an email to Jen Sanchez (jsanchez@physics.ucsd.edu) to indicate whether or not they intend on remaining in those sections. The number of people who showed up for the first meeting of A61 and B60 were not enough to justify the continuation of those sections, so those sections will be cancelled if the actual enrollment is not sufficient. Please contact Jen if you are enrolled in one of these sections.
Thu, Jan 08:
- The Lab Manual for Week 2, "Electrostatics", is now posted below. Please download the manual and complete the prelab homework questions before your lab meeting next week. Remember to make a carbon-copy of your prelab homework -- you'll turn-in your originals to the lab TA at the beginning of the lab.
