Homework, Examinations and Grading

Fall 2000

Each week, homework problems will be assigned no later than the Friday lecture by publication on the course WWW page. They will be collected in class one week later and graded. Solutions to all of the problems will be available at Soft Reserves or on the course WWW page. Graded homework will normally be returned one week after it was collected.

If you miss the Friday lecture, homework may be handed in by placing it in the instructor's mail box in Mayer Hall no later than the end of the class on the date the homework was due. No late homework will be accepted.

Important: Homework will be returned by passing all of the papers around the class. If you feel that this violates your privacy and you would rather not have your paper returned in this manner, write prominently on the first page "RETURN PRIVATELY" and see the instructor to get your homework.

There will be a midterm examination in class on Wednesday, October 25, 2000. One 8.5 X 11 inch sheet of notes, printed on one side, may be used at the midterm examination.

There will be a final examination on Wednesday, December 6, 2000, from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM. If you anticipate any problem with this time, you must discuss it with the lecturer during the first two weeks of the quarter. One 8.5 X 11 inch sheet of notes, printed on both sides, may be used at the final examination.

The final letter grade will be based on the homework (24%), the midterm examination (19%) and on the final examination (57%).
